Tough day, still good work gets done
It was a doozy of a day in the Calla-house. We made it through, phew. Trying to get your stuff done and parenting two lil growing nuggets with love and sturdiness will humble and test you -- Here's putting the music and lyric together with imagery. I worked backward, noticed some new things, found some wrong notes I'd learned and got a deeper sense of Earl's MO -- I'm also feeling confident all this will be confidently in the grey matter by Thursday's rehearsal. Also a testament that you can get some good work done when you just feel like watching TV and collapsing. Having folks to show up for always helps, too. https://share.descript.com/view/KL0j49TNRv3

So appreciating you sharing this series, Dan- so many helpful tools for structuring practice, keeping it accessible and effective, etc. AND so many tips for getting inside the brain of a character so different from yourself. Jon and I are hoping to come to the concert Friday night- can't wait to see all of this put into performance!
So professional
Just uploaded a new video to the YouTubes -- How to go pro as a musical theatre performer. This progression and these principles apply to any performer at any stage of their career. The trap we fall into when we get further down the road is we assume we're doing things that help when we're not doing things that help. Watch or save this, and see if any of these ideas help you out. ***AND*** if there's a question you wish you could type into the YouTube search re: musical theatre career and there'd be a clear answer, ask me. I'll make you a video, or I'll interview somebody who has that answer.

World premiere -- need your feedback
All right y'all -- this character's been kicking around in my noggin for YEARS, and I think I finally found a format in which he can serve the world. :) Introducing Duke Money: Multi-Style Vocal Pedagogy Expert and Biscuit Consultant. Duke Money is Broadway's secret weapon, clandestinely coaching some of musical theatre's greatest talents and secretly ensuring career longevity for stars from the world's great stages. Watch as Noah and I share a snippet from Mr. Money's first official interview (We're planning a podcast empire, Noah and me.) where he begins to talk about some of the foundational basics of vocal technique. Lemme know what you think! Did Duke teach you anything or remind you of anything important? :) https://share.descript.com/view/M4aewlRg0Iy

EXCELLENT specificity in your first question, Noah!!! For real- I loved this. Gave me Ron Swanson/Duke Silver energy meets vocal pedagogy in the best way possible. Would love to see Duke Money's take on registration.... I feel as though he'll have THOUGHTS.

(βœ‚οΈ copy paste these questions πŸ‘‡) πŸ“ Where are you from? and/or Where do you live now? 🎡 What song(s) are you currently working on? πŸ¦„ Wave a magic wand and make one thing about your artist life true. What would happen? STEP 2: Read the rules and find out what you can start using in the classroom.

πŸ“ Where are you from? and/or Where do you live now? Born/raised in New Hampshire, currently living in Washington, DC but often find myself in Philly, NYC and Boston for various life and work things- really just an Amtrak Northeast Regional girly. 🎡 What song(s) are you currently working on? I've been playing around with that "My Days" song from the Notebook that everyone has been singing- and it is HARD!! Good for my balance brain. I've also been dipping my toes back into the art song world- I've found myself subbing in a quartet recently that is making me dig out my classical chops and have actually been loving it. πŸ¦„ Wave a magic wand and make one thing about your artist life true. What would happen? I feel like I'm still very much working on my own artist/teacher balance and I would simply love to..... figure that out πŸ˜… I haven't been on stage in a hot minute and would love to get back there at some point. But ultimately, I'd love to land a full time teaching position at some point soon so that I have a little of that #jobsecurity and can then (ironically) feel a little more free to pursue the creative ideas I've had simmering for a while.
