Hello Amina, great to have a woman form another part of the world in the group! I suspect you are technically more knowledgeable than most here, from a theory standpoint at least ๐Ÿ˜„

People don't believe me when I tell them you can earn this sort of money in this industry (see image). This is just for a design engineering role. Contract BMS engineers earn even more than this. I heard something crazy while speaking to someone on a Zoom call yesterday. He was telling me about one of his clients who said he wants the Trend system they have ripped out and replaced because they are sick of payingโ€”and I quoteโ€”"ยฃ1,200 per day" to have a Trend engineer come out when they need one on-site. It's Economics 101... When supply is low (shortage of good BMS engineers) and demand is high (increased demand for building control and energy management)... businesses can charge what they like, lol. All starts with a technical skill set and understanding though ๐Ÿ˜‰

To be fair, Iโ€™d I were a Trend contractor Iโ€™d be incentivised to charge an arm and a leg too!! As Jevgenij points out: A)these pay days are for commissioning professionals/specialists B)In my experience Trend and Tridium are most frequently used on larger projects, Trend are a nightmare and Tridium online training is quite expensive The goods news though is that: - itโ€™s a growing industry with plenty of opportunities so if we apply ourselves we can progress quickly - Not having specific software training may not be the end of the world, thereโ€™s no reason why a company wonโ€™t provide this training if we can convince them itโ€™s a worthwhile investment - Adding to this, schematic specialise has shown me that the software really is not important, Iโ€™d you can meet a design spec and fully understand the system you are delivering, the software kind of sorts itself out - palm a full design off to a manufacture and theyโ€™d be happy to specify everything you need! - then just sub out the final commissioning to a BMS master like in this advert ๐Ÿคฃ - We are going through training like nothing available on the market, and our trajectory to reach senior status is pretty short in some cases. Just after schematic specialist I honestly think Iโ€™m more competent than a lot of the BMS engineers Iโ€™ve seen on site So the future is bright ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

Spot on! Certs will get your foot in the door and can make you stand out from the crowd, but if you can get sat down in front of a decision maker itโ€™s all in your hands
