Community Challenge - Portfolio Upgrade
Thank you to those who showed up to the portfolio review! I would like you all within the next week to apply the advice given. I've posted a new portfolio guide video in the classroom for all of you to watch! Once you're done, I want you to share your new portfolio links so we have clear before and afters. Can't wait to see your new portfolios!

@Denis Parlov Had a quick look at the site and I honestly like it. The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is the site logo at the top it just takes you to the main page even though I am already on it. You already have a tab for me to click on so I feel like making the logo clickable feels pointless. Not necessary but maybe adding the type of editing software you use can be helpful since some clients may only want editors using a specific editing suite.

I've updated my website a fair amount since last time! Currently not the same URL as the old design as I currently have issues transferring the domain over. https://madjackportfolio.crd.co/
Editing Influences
Who or what are some of y'all's biggest influences as editors? For me, as far as other YouTube editors go, Zade (Cody Ko) and Archie (The Yard, Tommy Innit, Shotgun Willy, etc) are easily the two who inspire me to try and be more creative and ambitious. And I'd say Scott Pilgrim vs. The World got me interested in cool vfx when I was a teenager; typically all of Edgar Wright's movies have really snappy editing styles that resonate with me (Baby Driver is my fav movie of all time) I'm always looking for more inspiration and share some of my own, let's chat!

I originally got into editing from a friend I met who did it about 12 years ago. I wanted to get into video editing so I went to college and did Media Studies for 3 years. In terms of the style of videos nowadays I would say YouTubers like DougDoug, TheSpiffingBrit & Let's Game It Out to name a few since they have a clean editing style and just let the storytelling do the rest.

I love SovietWombles captions. Just feels unique when keyframes and animate them like for example when getting shot his caption will start to get bullet holes and fall onto the ground which is just awesome.
Updating My Portfolio, Thoughts so far?
Since the livestream I have spent some time each day to change up how my portfolio site looks and I think it's turning out nicely! However, I just want to note a few things since it isn't done yet. - I did use a similar design to Jiggys at the top of the site but changing it up and adding my things in. - Some images load straight away and get a weird issue of images "popping in". - Only been working on the website version, but once I have the design done I will optimize for mobile. Feedback is appreciated! Original: https://www.madjackedits.com/ Rework: https://madjackportfolio.crd.co/

@Kevin Wilcox I should probably add a background behind the text yeah. I'll do that soon :)
Portfolio
How to do a great portfolio ? Like a one easy to watch while scrolling, I want to create one almost like this but I donโ€™t know how https://www.vfxmalice.com/portfolio I want to create one with parts, for each type of videos I worked on. Maybe a Drive with folders is better ? Donโ€™t you think ?

@Petit Nuage Rouge If you check the classroom tab you'll see a video for Jiggy that shows you how you can set-up a Carrd portfolio site yourself! Tip: Once you've made the site for Desktop, make sure to check the phone version as sometimes it may not be perfect. So you can edit the phone version separately from the desktop.

@Petit Nuage Rouge no problem :)
YTJobs Is A Joke (Sometimes)
I'm sure a good amount of us have heard of YTJobs. If you haven't, it's a website where YouTubers post to look for Video Editors, Producers, Scriptwriters, Channel Managers, etc. Since I started using it about 6-7 months ago it's honestly been great to show off my work, have trusted reviews from previous content creators and great to share to a client who may not use the site. However, I fear that there are a few flaws with the site which has been rather annoying over the last few months. The moderation. If anyone has ever used the Forum section of the site, you'll know that it's mixed with legit people with interest and people who create fake portfolios and just straight-up spam and ask for a referral on videos they "claim" to have worked on but have no proof. You also have people who have little to no experience on the site. To be honest, this is not a site they should be using. Mainly young people think that just because they can edit with the style of Mr.Beast automatically means they will just get hired in an instant. Hell No. Maybe they should go and use Casting Call Club which while yes the projects over there are a bit more... cringe sometimes. However, it can be a good place to start given you find a project you want to apply for. Also, if you want to edit in the Mr.Beast style, go for it. But I feel that it's very saturated on YouTube at this point. Overall, YTJobs needs to clean up their site and maybe give a damn about moderation for once.

@Tam Dangelo Really? Like I said it can be a great place to get clients if you've worked in the space for a while and have the experience to show it.
