Belts Verses Skill Level
Dear Community Members, Just would like to express the fact that belt/sash colour does not reflect true skill level unless you keep up with your training! I can assure you all that skills (of any type) diminish over time, if you don’t keep up with your training to keep those skills for survival purposes! As a purple belt, I have been through plateaus and even dips in skills and I must be honest that it takes hard work and dedication to keep your skills. In class, I have found class members (especially the ones from a younger generation), to be intimidated by not me but by my belt colour. Ladies and gentleman, if you are a white belt who practices your skills daily (or often) and are motivated to reach new heights, you will surely be better than the purple belt who doesn’t train when they are not in a classroom setting. Another thing I would like to iterate is the fact that there are merits in training with practitioners who are better skilled than you , as well as those who are not as skilled as you. Training with lower skilled practitioners help you test your state/martial skill and training with higher skilled practitioners help you develop your state/martial skill. Every time that I get to train with @Sifu John Cogan , I jump at the opportunity because I can train and develop my state and martial skill. I have the same feeling when it comes to training with white and blue belts as doing so can allow me to experiment using my state against them. Please remember the following: TRAINING WITH BETTER SKILLED OR LOWER SKILLED PRACTITIONERS HELP YOUR OWN SKILLS AS WELL AS ‘THEIRS’. BOTH TYPES OF LEVELS PLAY HUGE ROLES IN YOUR SKILL DEVELOPMENT. Training everyday is a must and I know some members here may feel that they have no time or whatever excuse they may have. Training in martial arts is like having learnt a new foreign language, it takes time to develop to proficiency. Even at a level of proficiency, you need to keep refining your skills by using it daily.

A positive time of my day. No more social media 😷 For fun I like to do these 3 things: 1.  Walk my dogs 🐕 2.  Read 📚 3.  Find new places to eat 😋

@Noah Cogan thank you for your warm welcoming 🙏
Officially here.
I am Isaac from Uganda, Africa. I am happy that i am part of this strong family. At first and while growing up i thought kungfu and wingchun are for only fighting. As i have grown and evolved, i have realised it is more way beyond that. From what i read and watch it involves more of understanding/mastering oneself, improving the thinkong faculties, taming all bad emotions etc. This builds in all aspects of life hence my interest and developed commitmemt to learning. Minus training the mind and state of mind, What is the best age for one to learn kungfu? How best can one learn kunfu or wingchun without a physical teacher? How long can it take for an average person to learn basic skills first? Thankyou.

Hi friend, new here too, but what I've learned so far is martial arts is for all ages. Never too late to learn and master! 🙏 Having a physical teacher with your isn't much necessary as long as you are putting your all in learning and cultivating your meditative state in the videos. And as for your last question, really does depend on yourself! 🏋️‍♀️
