@Stuart Brooks This is similar to me with saying um, ahh, so. Here are some things I have picked up and try to implement when I am presenting. - Pause: After making a point, pause for a moment. This gives people time to process what youโ€™ve said without prompting them directly. - Rephrase: Like Anthony said or you could even end your statements with "any questions on that?" - Visual Cues/Catch phrase: You could finish your sentences with a thumbs up and phrase "Yes" or "Sound Good" something like that. You could raise your hand and say "Raise a hand if that makes sense" then continue on. - Replace OK with a new word or phrase: Instead of "OK" say "This is really important" "Keep that in mind" Etc. Hope this helps!

๐ŸŽค Choke out the โ€œUmโ€ with These 3 Tips!
About 15 years ago I was watching a recording of my live presentation to the Australian Institute of Management. I was in the audience watching this up on the big screenโ€ฆ feeling pretty confident, and thinking I had done a decent job. A few minutes in, I was totally mortified to realise I said โ€œumโ€ and โ€œahโ€ so much it was like I had Touretteโ€™s! ๐Ÿ˜ณ๐Ÿ™ˆ It totally distracted everyone from what I was saying, and my message was lost. ๐Ÿ˜ตโ€๐Ÿ’ซ The only thing anyone remembered was all those fillersโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ Have YOU ever feel like youโ€™re saying "um" so much in your speech that it could become a drinking game? ๐Ÿป Letโ€™s fix that! Over the next few posts, I am going to share tips on how to ditch fillers and sound more confident and professional INSTANTLY! First upโ€ฆ. The Power of the PAUSE! Instead of filling the silence with "um," take a moment to pause. โธ๏ธ Think of it like a dramatic cliffhanger in your favourite TV show. ๐Ÿ“บ Your audience will be on the edge of their seats! ๐Ÿช‘ Pausing gives you a moment to collect your thoughts and adds emphasis to your points. It also makes you appear more confident and in control. ๐Ÿ’ช Tips for PRACTICE: - DELIBERATELYย insert Pauses: Practise your speech and deliberately add pauses at key points, like before introducing a new idea or after a big statement. โœ๏ธ - Breathe: Use pauses as a reminder to take a deep breath. This helps you stay relaxed and maintain a steady pace. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธ - Count in Your Head: When you pause, count to two or three in your head before continuing. This keeps your pauses just rightโ€”not too short, not too long. โณ Pausing is your secret weapon in public speaking - use it well and youโ€™ll keep your audience engaged and hanging on your every word. ๐ŸŽฏ So, embrace the silence! Try this and comment below to let me know how you go!
