Yes you read that right... this past Saturday my team and I lost 8-0. If you think I'm kidding you can verify here for yourself: (check line-up to see I played) https://league1ontario.com/match/181680248/ A game like this is never easy (especially after going down 4-0 within the first 20 minutes) and mentally you must remain in the game regardless of the score because naturally, in a high scoring game, you are going to have more moments than usual that you are called upon and it's up to you to decide how you are going to answer that call; either with your head up or your head down. I had 23 moments where I was involved in this game, some went my way and some didn't, but that's 23 more game reps than I had before and that's what the focus is on here. There were a lot of things not in my control this game such as: -Missing eight players from our usual starting line-up and having to start 15/16 year olds against a Vaughan Azzurri team that's top of the table -Not having trained together as a team for a week because players have started pre-season with their universities. Regardless, you focus on what's in your sphere of control and do the best you can given the situation. Although the win might be thrown out the window for a game like this, each game is still a tremendous opportunity to grow and develop your game. Every 90 minutes is a chance to be better than you were before and you walk off the field at the end of that game having become a more experienced and mature goalkeeper which should give you confidence and motivation going into the next test/battle!
