Top website newsletter?
What's the top NEWSletter in the content site / niche site / SEO / website investing space? i.e. not just bragging about their acquisitions / services / accomplishments but actually covering the news? Pure play, not also covering ecom etc For newsletters it's either https://www.whosponsorsstuff.com/ or https://newsletterbusiness.com/

@Richard Patey I do include news I find interesting, but not an A-Z “what happened this week.” I may include a section with more of that. I much prefer diving a bit deeper on thematic trends. I did just spin out a Reddit-only newsletter so I can keep NMP more broadly focused on web publishing.

Looks like beehiiv is becoming a creator first platform rather than newsletter first https://mail.bigdeskenergy.com/p/beehiiv-acquires-typedream This makes total sense to me and @Travis Street where we were building the Swwwap.com platform to be focussed on assets, but then realized that it’s the people trading them that we should focus on. Here’s how I see this whole space in 2024: Email and websites, like social, are channels to provide value and build audience Those channels can be directed into a community where connections provide more value The community can be directly monetized or used to sell products and generate leads for services What’s your take on this?

@Cassie May very cool & feels like the “lines” between asset classes / models are shading into each other more. For as much disruption as there’s been with AI / Google, it’s never been easier to start a business solo.

Profit Multiples on Content Sites fell to 2.7x profit in H2 2023
New Flippa Data Insights shows how content sites peaked in H1 2022 at 3.2x annual profit and has fallen since. With all the latest google updates and AI developments, I wonder if they will get to < 2x by this year's end?

@Richard Patey it’s definitely rough sailing out there. That said, some good deals out there if you can underwrite sites differently. For example, is a site with no more Google traffic and diminished (but steady) traffic from Bing or alternative sources actually a safer investment than a Google juiced content site 3-5 years ago? Also seeing lots of special situations. A Google sunk site that has a great content profile for a Pinterest or FB traffic strategy. Or, a diminished site with a significant email list that can be turned into a newsletter biz. Also seeing some that just have useful content that can be repurposed in other ways. Also lots of mediocre one-trick pony sites that should be ignored at all costs. I’m actually finding due diligence to be much easier!
