Suggetions for optimizing "Range breakout X2"
My expert is based on breakouts the same strategy as "scalping project" with 4 levels of support and resistance. results are good with only a 40% win rate. The philosophy behind this EA is that one true breakout , one winning trade a day can cover all your losses and make your account grow. Today many losses in gold "high volatility and market range" yesterday it was perfect... I'm looking for suggestions to optimise my EA, any ideas to have good results in the sideways market...

For analysis of market noise it would be worth viewing Martyn Tinsley's videos on the subject ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z09UFOJ-G4
Where do you stand?
Hey guys, I am always thinking about new content/ways to help you on your programming/trading journey. I listed some options below that will help me with this. Please select the one that describes your situation best. Also it would be great if you write a comment with your current situation regarding your trading/programming level.

BUT I sometimes struggle with mt5 and (as I've said before), the mql5 moderators are not friendly. There is also a lot of choice and I've now started looking at Python for initial backtesting. Thankfully, I'm retired so I have the time to pursue this stuff. Also, I have a problem with looking at my code and seeing what I thought I'd written as opposed to what is actually there !
tester takes too long time
Hi every one, I have uploaded yesterday a version of my MT5 Expert to the market, but when I upload a MT4 version, it takes too long time and finally I received this error message? Any advices 🤔

apparently mt5 is multi-core whereas mt4 can't take advantage of the architecture of your computer
Multi Symbol EA
Hi, I coded a multi-symbol EA and use it for Forex pairs. For Money Management you can choose between either fix lot sizes or risk adjusted lot size. I would like to extend the code to run the EA with other instruments like stocks, indices and commodities, simultaneously. For this I do check the lot size calculation based on the specification for each instrument (min, max lot size, lot step, etc.). What is your opinion? Do you trade different instruments in one EA or do you have different EA for different instruments? What are the pros and cons?

Still in development I'm afraid ! I've written some of the csv fields with a view to analysing them. I think Martyn was going to do something on this but he got involved with a more important project. I tried using the analysis from the mt5 backtest but it didn't seem to tie up with the output. Next thing is to get roughly the right output from the csv files and start playing with spreadsheet pivot tables. As I've said elsewhere, I then discovered Python for backtesting and have been a bit distracted ! Possibly one quick win is what Martyn calls Market Regimen, and others call going with the trend.
Market Phase Filters
Everybody would love to have got a great Filter that says if a market is trending, ranging, week or strong or whatever. Always by the general idea that this assumption might help to select the correct trading approach for that phase. Unfortunately Filters are lagging. So when a Trend Filter says it's a Trending Market, often the direction might switch in a short period of time. If a Filter has no lag at all, it's a repainter. It would be great to hear your favourite Filters for specific Market situations, please also on which TF you are using it.

I'm sure you will have seen this but just in case you missed it, Martyn's series on noise and efficiency was great - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1z09UFOJ-G4

Retired. Didn't really need to invest until we got successive Tory governments and left the EU. Now know a lot about rabbit holes.
