I’m just sitting on my lounge, watching Four Weddings and a Funeral for the umpteenth time and it just struck me that the first time I watched it was at the cinema when it was first released 30 years ago. 30 years! Gosh 1994 was an amazing year - apart from the release of Four Weddings there was a couple of other great movie releases - Speed, True Lies, Dumb & Dumber, The Lion King and, of course, Forrest Gump - to name a few. 1994 was also the year that the first season of Friends aired (could they BE any funnier?) But the biggest memory I have of 1994 was standing in line to vote in South Africa’s first ever fully democratic election which saw the late, great Nelson Mandela sworn in as President. Thirty years later and we’re dipping our toes into 2024 and even though the world around us is in turmoil - I’m feeling hopeful and expectant that this will be a year of change, of acceptance, of encouragement and grace. 🌸
