I’m nearing completion of the recordings for the Leadership Essentials course. I can’t wait to release it! One week to go 😰

What was your most challenging job experience?
What’s something you feel like sharing that was extremely challenging for you on the job? Why was it challenging? What did you learn from it? Did you change from it?

@Destry Strauss I would say that what you experienced was an anomaly on a lot of fronts, but bravo on you for saying something and sticking to it. Normally HR is not there to help make it better. The leaders are normally not introspective about dysfunction in the org, and certainly wouldn't normally try to work it out. Easier just to get someone else. Perhaps the risks were too great, or your case was too compelling 🤩

@Destry Strauss thank you for sharing that story. And great writing by the way. I’m still digesting it.

@Destry Strauss do tell about this "culture nightmare." Are you able to turn it around even a little so far?
Focus on Outcomes
There was an old Henry Ford quote, to the effect of: "If I asked my customers what they wanted, they would have asked for faster horses." I think his point was - and what I have learned about a hundred times over is.... definitely ask the customer about their intended outcome, but realize that they will nearly always have their own point of reference on how that outcome is achieved. I thought it was a good reminder to keep the outcome in mind. That led me read a little more about Henry

It’s a very tangible illustration of the common dilemma of lack of vision in the presence of literal non-visionary alternatives. Imagine if Ford had a product person around who was debating him on composite horseshoes or horse diets for speed 🙀
Proper Hydration
Reminder: most of us don't even realize it, but we are walking around dehydrated much of the time. This is why I put hydration on the list of non-negotiables (you did see that course, right?). Here's an article from UC Davis on why hydration is important. https://health.ucdavis.edu/blog/good-food/why-its-important-for-you-to-drink-water-and-stay-hydrated/2022/07 On workout days, I will commonly take a very small dose of iodized table salt with my morning water just to make sure I get some electrolytes in the morning. This may not be appropriate for everyone, but I encourage us all to at least monitor how much water we drink in a day. How can you tell if you are hydrated enough? Simple: Producing clear urine is a good indication that you're well-hydrated. What do you all think of your current hydration level in a typical day?
