@David L. It’s been fun! Thanks for everything you and everyone else have done in the short amount of time this was up. I would offer to setup a discord server and transfer admin/ownership to Nathan as replacement for this but unfortunately I am in between moving so I can’t really do it before this closes up shop. I’m pretty sure it’s still free but I haven’t helped set one up in a while so I don’t know if it still is or if it has limitations now

@David L. Unfortunately I don't use social media except commenting on Youtube sometimes. I made an Instagram a while back but never used it and forgot the password. I know it's a bit weird since I like technology but was never really into sharing personal stuff online before. I might eventually do something for YouTube especially since I plan to travel soon. I just think it would be fun to build a community if I can get over my bad social anxiety. Since you are retired you could make YouTube videos about your life experiences, portfolio, and travels too. People who make videos that are living off their portfolio do well on YouTube and the finance niche pays a lot in ad revenue so it would be an additional revenue source for you as well. I know you would have a lot of interesting stuff to talk about in the short time I met you. And if you do I'd subscribe
$1,200
Good morning, everyone! I am currently paying $1,200 per year to keep this community going. I don't mind paying that if it's valuable, but engagement has waned in recent weeks. (Including from myself!) Unless anyone has better ideas, I will plan to close the community over the next month. My wife and I are trying to save up to buy a "new" used car for our family to replace my 2011 Prius, so the savings will be nice. I will continue to post videos on YouTube, but my only other "community" will be on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/nathanwinklepleck

Completely understandable. I have been busy the last couple weeks and will continue to be busy for a little while. I will be getting a new used car in the next few months on margin myself. A free idea for the community is setting up a discord server although the setup is different vs the article/forum based one here. Either way it’s been fun guys and thanks for everything
Just when I thought I heard everything.
I spoke with someone recently who gave rather unusual investment advice. Buy VWO when under 35 (market is undervalued) and sell when over 45 (market is overvalued) Wait for VWO to go under and buy it back. Quite an odd something to buy and hold as its an emerging markets fund.

It might work out if it'll stay within the range.

@K H it's too bad the options weren't juicier or else covered puts and calls would be interesting. I suppose you could wait for elevated VIX like 20+ but I'm not very knowledgeable on mutual fund tickers but parking cash in money market, high yield savings, <1 year bonds ect. are pretty safe places to stash cash. I use BOXX and JPST for parking cash which JPST invest a little bit in money market, bonds, and various short term debt under 2 years. BOXX is 90 day option box spreads which act like 3-month T-bills for yield. You could also do SGOV, BIL, or some other short term treasuries too
NKE: Dip Buy or Dumpster Fire?
Trading for -50%+ off its 2021 high I'm curious about everyone's thoughts about the wide moat and profitable checkmark brand after it's cooled off from its 2020-2022 run.

@Tony S would like to see some volume come in and a bigger candle. Would be great to see it push before the 1st but I think it’s going to wait for earnings for any large directional push. Could be wrong but I’m most likely not taking a trade on it because I don’t like earnings trades or trading so close to earnings. The type of breakouts I like are purely technical with earnings atleast a few weeks out. If I were to play this I’d have a buy stop at $92 probably or do an options trade but I would be surprised at a large directional move so close to earnings unless some sort of leak or news happens over the weekend for a gap up/down situation

@Cris Bob Nice the last time it's traded under that 8-year average was 08' crash and .com bubble. I like the 4 year average for SPY (48-50 SMA/EMA for monthly) on the super long term. Use SPX to examine how well the 4 year works for S&P500. Does a pretty good job as a good indicator for bear market especially if you add other data I would not use by itself of course. Like the Monthly RSI, unemployment, or some other data. It still does not beat DCA but it's one way to try to "dip buy" the market. I don't like indicators and it's not how I invest or trade but I do sometimes plot a MA for visual direction
SCHD announces a 3 for 1 stock split
Effective after markets close on October 10, 2024, this ETF will undergo a 3-for-1 share split. The ETF share split will apply to shareholders of record as of the close of markets on October 9, 2024, payable after the close of the markets on October 10, 2024. Shares will begin trading at their post-split price on October 11, 2024. Forward share splits increase the number of shares outstanding and decrease the Net Asset Value (NAV) per share. The share splits will not change the total value of a shareholder’s investment.

That’s cool I’ll have to think about selling puts or put laddering this now if it’s only going to be $3000 per stack when volatility spikes. My strategy for getting in SCHD would be selling at the money puts when VIX spikes and if you get assigned oh well you got paid for your fancy limit order. I like DGRW a bit better but ideally I’d mix DGRW with SCHD to cover each of their weaknesses. SCHD’s low growth/tech exposure is covered by DGRW and DGRW’s high tech exposure is smoothed out by SCHD’s defensive sectors
