DYI Relay - possibility of a 10V control
Hi everyone, quick question, can this relay be controlled by a house 0-10v digital signal? Meaning, when I receive a 10v digital signal from another board, I can channel it back to this small relay for control, and output to a GPIO (Arduino, Raspberry PI Input) -friendly 3.3V signal? Or is this relay too small to be controlled by a 10V signal? https://www.amazon.ca/ELEGOO-Channel-Optocoupler-Arduino-Raspberry/dp/B06XCKQ1M9/ref=sr_1_7?crid=296HLEOVJ43H7&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.aPsTCKBt_-jLzcCsOf4DqgA8NE2hx7S7ZYT76i2aMIobRijWVGoG5gagCypN3SPh2n4gBzP59sMHICiLq0Vp7oSHv8mzQ2DGuvx-1c8911LsoSbiWSe4Vna4Te-5YwnrVnoBtOT2ZeAe2HJfggLrwTW6vxO6LB11dCxsvKJTSZxOPlgzwdFEcHnhXJea8nN-E8v8FrkdSPxsk5iVZi7U6DqfUwp8vmcJ2tkSqe7OS84fvsCY5g4oVCLDUR8g5XBgGHJGdHnq4wLJaBdLoLcmYGDrCcBkjpeKwdg_2P2_yEc.JiHtgsYhuG8Z4iNO61K-8jU6wz9BrtK6Jc7hN_hN1ZQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=relay%2Barduino&qid=1723222772&sprefix=relay%2Barduino%2Caps%2C88&sr=8-7&th=1 **Usually people go the other way around, they use this relay to be controlled by 3.3V and output 10v (or whatever their equipment voltage).**

DYI Relay - possibility of a 10V control

@Bugra Bugday Thanks Bugra. Yes, the optocoupler is 817c, it's good that you warned me there. I tried building a voltage divider, something off of ChatGPT where I had something like a 100kOhms on one end and 200 on another (don't have the exact numbers). Funny thing is, it kept reading 10V on my multimeter at the other ends of the resistors, so, somehow it didn't work. Any takes on why a voltage divider of two resistances, one at each end, may still output the same voltage? Perhaps once I run it through a component it will run 5V and not 10V anymore?
What are the old and the new trends in Automation Industry
Hello my fellow colleagues and senior Engineers. I was giving an assignment by one senior Engineer (My Mentor) which ask me to draw the control circuits for the given questions (attached to this post). Unfortunately, after drawing the circuit diagrams he said "You used an old fashion pattern". I was confused😴. Please can you help me solve the problems and also I'll like to know what he mean by an old fashion system design. I believe as a beginner who's just starting the Automation journey, definitely I don't know about old trends.

I think you forgot to share the schematic, FBD or Ladder Logic perhaps. Don't know what old fashioned would be, but there are some security considerations to be made when writing a ladder program. You are also likely to use a latching system to run motors that visually looks different from what he teaches, but does the same things.

@Japhet Gakarnan Haruna I can take a glance if you paste your answers, but I'm no PLC programmer. The cases you listed in the assignment seem pretty straight forward.

Not even close. Churn is baked in the business model at this point. Technical positions may not track with the market much, more money doesn't mean more output imo, only less money means less output. Whereas positions like sales do have a correlation. I would love a post or a video on that Chris, and on how to level up salary-wise :) any advice?

@Chris Guyatt makes sense. I plan to start something later this year, building a hobbyist portfolio right now (after work).

@Chris Guyatt That's very appreciated Chris. Watching it at least twice. Thanks. & for the learning-program - control systems specialist - I'm considering getting it in mid september when I finish autocad and come back from Vietnam vacay; very much hyped for that, especially now you say it can boost my career :)

Apply heavily (taking note of feedback, like on Excel), make sure your CV looks top notch (clean & consise) - outlying how each skill in the job posting has been fulfilled by your past experience or in progress of being acquired. If nothing works, search for technician starter work or for work in more remote areas. If you can create some familiarity with the recruiter or future manager, like having had them as professor or meeting at a conference, that'd be a big plus. But... It's not easy man.
