Beware of the bidding traps!
A lot of the bigger corporate shippers have adopted a bidding platform of some sort for their brokers and carriers to bid on their available freight. Although these are the easiest available options to get in with certain shippers and gain your first customers whether you are just starting out as a freight broker or a carrier, you should not rely on these to keep your business running. These methods are used by corporations to ALWAYS obtain the cheapest bidder. It is a race to the bottom and if you do manage to win the load it will most likely be priced at a point of no profit, require entirely too much time and labor to move the load, and increases liability by limiting your buying power to hire a reliable carrier. Your focus should be on building relationships with customers who will speak directly with you. Sometimes a relationship can take a year to build and make your first sale. Sometimes only a month or less. But in the end you will have a customer who exhibits loyalty to your services in which you can actually make a living working with.

Customs Broker?
What are your thoughts on Customs Brokers? It seems that most I have seen work in a forwarding company. Have you seen many solo Custom Brokers or small companies that primarily offer Customs services? How does this compare to you to Freight Brokering? Ofcourse they are two very different things but I would love to hear your thoughts.

Dockworker strike?
With a potential dockworkers strike looming overhead what are your concerns in regards to the supply chain? How may this affect your business if it were to drag on for weeks or months?

Its definitely going to be interesting to watch how it unfolds. With the 2 major points of focus being wages and prevention of a.i. from taking over jobs, we have two opposing agendas clashing at the end of a contract. Being labeled one of the strongest unions in the country if they do strike its highly unlikely the government will be able to do anything legally in regards.
What does your future look like?
Whats you 6month plan? 1 year? Etc? With 400 companies a week going under in 2024 and general freight being at a stand still what are some key strategies you are using to stay ahead of the curve, and retain your customers while competing against the super cheap mega corps. Let's mix it up.

@Bill Robinson Absolutely! Knowing how to pivot in any business but especially in the transportation industry is absolutely imperative!

@Tonnie Banks Agreed! Accountability is one of the most important qualities any company can have, especially a service based one. I've had many similar instances where a customer may not work with me for a load or 2 in hopes of chasing the cheaper brokerage. However when they drop the ball they always come back with the "I wish I went with you in the first place". We don't rub it in though we simply express our gratitude for their returned business and continue to provide as excellent a service we can. But as you said accountability is key with everything. As humans we all make mistakes but its how you handle and recover from those mistakes that count the most.
"Were happy with who were with"
Whats your go to rebuttal when your prospect gives you the ole were happy with who were currently with speech? Of course they are but you want them to be happy with you not them! Let's hear those responses!
