@Andreas Feldmann i just bought my new frame, lens (w/ astigmatism), and check up at Travis’ recommended shop, 70usd all in. My frames were more expensive so you can spend anywhere from 40usd. Very cheap and great service!
New Folks in Da Nang
There's a handful of people that have recently arrived in Da Nang. I'm curious if anyone could share how you've been settling in? What has been the most interesting thing that's happened so far? What has been the most difficult adjustment to make? How have you been handling the rainy weather?

Arrived HCM on Sept 19 and moved to Da Nang a week later. Still here and extended my stay until VISA expiry mid-Dec. Some info about me to preface my experience here… 1. Left Canada in search of a new home in SEA or ASIA. Not here on vacation but to settle down eventually (finding a home base). 2. Absolutely not looking for a relationship not that anyone asked lol My experience so far… 1. Vietnamese people are very inviting and friendly. More than most other Asian countries 2. Dine ONLY from CLEAN hygienic street vendors. Restaurants, even western ones are very affordable and clean. 3. Country is extremely affordable which allows me to enjoy healthier meals more often, fruits over western snacks (ie chips, candy), flexibility with apartment options, and a lot of freedom to hire a grab to go to places to shop etc (uber is 5-10x the price back home) 4. HCM air pollution and the crowds were out of control - i didn’t like it and wanted to leave within a couple of days 5. Da Nang love getting my 10k steps in along the boardwalk on sunny days. I love the chill vibe but it can get very boring over time 6. The morning/night ban bao man or the loud karaoke can get super annoying. Lets not forget the grab drivers asking if i want boomboom when im tryna get home lol 7. Only negative is that I don’t have any burning desire to learn the language, culture, or have an open mind in doing business here bc… it is tough to learn the language… the tourist visa options are probably a hindrance to staying here longterm (most Asian countries offer Visa on arrival and much simpler process)…. The infrastructure for longterm investment is just not here for me (risk is too high imo)… all my subjective pov of course! That’s my experience so far. I work US EST hours usually from 730pm-3am latest, far better than the 930pm-5am in Korea/Japan… I can save a lot of money here while living a high quality life. I can definitely see the appeal living here longterm. However, once visa expires I will explore other countries.

Any texas hold'em in Da Nang?
I would be curious to know any and all information about this specific game being run inside of casinos. (Not interested in underground games in private setups) thanks

Any poker here in Danang?

Hey i found a spot in denang, very good. Called Ocean poker club on fb. Only tournies though and usually runs daily from 12pm. They just had a massive event over the weekend about 2-500$ buy ins, big guarantees.
The first experience was the worst experience.
When I was in America, I worked a job that had me staying up until about 4 am. When I filled out the e-visa it was about 4 in the morning. I paid with a card that wanted to send a text to my phone. My phone was dead, and I thought it broke at first. Then I remembered there was a scheduled update. I had to do it over again as 5 am approached. I had 3 flights going in. New Orleans to NYC’s JFK to Taipei, Taiwan to HCM. That middle flight was over 15 hours on China Airlines. When I arrived at the airport I got in line for the visa/passport check, and when it was my turn, I got brought to the side. There was a problem with my visa form. When I filled it out, I only put my first and last name. I talked to a man in green while wondering about his English competency. I thought it was military, and now I think it’s the police. The visa form has one box for your family name, and then a second box for everything else. I wasn’t careful when I filled it out, and generally your middle name is only for when you’re in trouble with your mom. After sitting there uneasy about the situation, the man in green led me over to someone he called a travel agent. He said he could fix my visa problem for $125. Four days prior was my birthday, and my mom gave me a check for $300 that I turned into cash to bring with me. I didn’t think about haggling, and I didn’t feel like I was in a good position for that. After that things took so long that my suitcase was brought to the lost and found luggage area. I had trouble finding it. I tried to get my gf to help, but they don’t let people in the airport too easily. Sometime after this I realized it was too much to pay for a visa correction.

Weather update Da Nang October 23
On 10/21 we had the first real rainy day in Da Nang when it dumped all day. Since then Sunny and clear. There looks to by a Typhoon, the first big storm of the rainy season that will hit Da Nang this weekend. Prepare for heavy for probably 3-4 days straight starting on the weekend. Will keep everyone updated.
