Reflections from "The Foundation"
Here are three reflection questions based on the teachings from the foundation. Share your answers! 1. Overcoming Negativity: When facing challenges, what thoughts or actions help you shift toward a more positive outlook? Can you identify a recent experience where you practiced this? 2. Overcoming Time: What practices help you stay fully present in the moment, rather than focusing on the past or future? How might these practices change your experience of daily life? 3. Moving Beyond Sight as the Dominant Sense: How often do you take time to connect with your inner self? What steps can you take to deepen this connection and rely more on your inner guidance?

1. Overcoming negativity is a hard one for me. I find when I get in a negative headspace, my mind starts to spiral and focus on all the things that could go wrong and then I try to come up with solutions for each scenario so I can try to control or get in front of each of the potential outcomes. This causes me to ruminate on the topic which can lead to anxiousness and an unsettled feeling in my body. It's awful. The last time this scenario happened, I ended up just surrendering to the situation and told myself whatever the outcome, I was fine with it and would deal with it, that it was meant to be. For example, a couple of weeks ago I had a case conference with my soon to be ex that was scheduled months ago. As we were getting closer to the date, I was growing increasingly anxious and was in such a negative headspace over what the potential outcome would be from the case conference. I was at my wit's end and was feeling completely overwhelmed as I was putting on a brave face both at work and on the days I had my children. Well God or the Divine must've felt my sense of defeat because in the 24 hours leading up to the case conference, I felt an overwhelming sense of calm and I attribute this to the fact that at some point I simply surrendered to the situation and knew I was not in control and to just let it go. Once my mind understood this, my body followed and I was no longer anxious or nervous. In fact, I went into the case conference feeling confident at whatever the outcome was going to be. In the end, the conference went in my favour. 2. To overcome time, either past or future, I like to go for a walk by the lake near my house or to be out somewhere in nature where time seems to stand still. Something about hearing the birds or the sound of wind or watching waves crash on the rocks brings me right back to the present. An overwhelming sense of gratitude rushes over me and allows me to embrace the simpler things in life. If a walk isn't possible either because I have a busy day at work or doing stuff with my kids, I find some time in the evening to sit and knit. It calms my mind and is a form of meditation for me, something I really enjoy doing that is just for me. 3. I have to admit I'm not great at taking time with my inner self. I use to do yoga but life has gotten busy so I don't find it as accessible as before. I've tried meditating but can't seem to stick with it. I'm interested in breathework as I've heard good things about it.
