The Future of Software Quality Assurance

1. The future of software testing is uncertain, with conflicting opinions on the role of testers. However, the need for testing as a discipline and profession will remain in the short to medium term due to the importance of software quality. 2. Testers have two main options for career development: become a T-shaped tester or specialize in a specific testing area. T-shaped testers have a broad skill set and can provide value in various areas, such as testing, requirements engineering, scripting, and business domain knowledge. They work closely with other team members and contribute to building a quality product. Test specialists have deep expertise in a specific testing area, such as security testing, performance testing, or usability testing. They focus on a narrow field and possess in-depth knowledge and skills in that area. 3. T-shaped testers should have a combination of testing knowledge and skills, IT knowledge and skills, domain knowledge, and soft skills. They need to understand various testing methods and techniques, have programming knowledge, be familiar with web and mobile technologies, understand the software development lifecycle, possess project management skills, and have good communication, time management, analytical, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing skills. 4. Test specialists focus on a specific testing area and have specialized knowledge and skills in that area. Examples of test specialist areas include security testing, performance testing, and usability testing. Test specialists are valuable in addressing complex non-functional testing issues and can provide expertise in their specific area. 5. It is important for testers to continuously update their knowledge and skills, stay informed about industry trends, and adapt to the changing demands of the job market. Testers should regularly review their career plans and consider their strengths, passion, work environment, and market demands when choosing their career path.
Testing Certifications?
@Cheryl Taylor asked a great question about testing certifications in the AMA thread and I wanted to bring the discussion here because it's important. See the attached video for my take on it. I want to hear from anyone who has a perspective on this, all views are valid, regardless of your experience level!

@Cheryl Taylor If you already have the experience then you can go through the playlist in one weekend and pass the exam. That's what I did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIbkdmHJoHs&list=PLj5VKaW115t0LT-7DICjHkGuxdTEqFI91 Now to answer your question, If you land in a full time role, you have to set some professional goals (That's part of the job-where you will be evaluated for your performance). I set the goal to get certified and to be honest I learned a lot and apply to those in my projects.
