Data Science/AI news accounts
Hi coders! Do you know any SM accounts (preferably Twitter/X) that share knowledge about AI development and overall data science? Here are some I've found so far: Twitter / X @mckaywrigley (interesting application of ChatGPT, good motivation) @sophiamyang (covering what's new) @rajistics (diving into LLM papers, ways of implementing LLMs) @huggingface (no need for introduction) @aibreakfast (latest news related to AI) @osanseviero (interesting papers) YouTube Andrej Karpathy (in-depth tutorials) TheAIGRID (weekly summary of AI news) Kennevo (building a powerful AI, making fun of it in the process, not so technical) Two Minute Papers (tech news) Liam Ottley (that's where I started) Matt Farmer AI (another news channel, more 'harsh' I'd say) Feel free to share yours! I'm curious where you learn about this rapidly changing industry. 🤖 PS. Pls like, I need level 3 😅 PS.2 Added links

@Bastian Brand I don't really have an opinion on him, I just watched his tutorials or explaination videos (and I liked those). Also, I've seen his "AI Agency" playlist but didn't watch it.

@Bastian Brand Thanks!
Degree vs self-taught
Just a simple question for those who are working in data science and ML: Is the degree worth it? I've been talking with many people, and the conclusion that I draw from the convos is that if you are not required to have a degree, university is useless. You can learn pretty much everything you'll need working in the field for 1-2 years. And everything you'll need is on the internet. You just need to have enough self discipline to stick to it. Am I right? Am I wrong? Please share your thoughts in the comments.

Hi everyone, I'm Michael. I'm not focused on anything in particular, just want to learn, maybe work in the field in the future. I'm more of a self learner, don't like school and their methods.

@Sultan A Yeah, I don't know what your experience is, but for me school is just a life sucker. I hate learning things that are only useful till next test. And you can learn so many wonderful things on the web, for free, rather than spending meaningless hours listening to some nonsense.
Huge hosting savings while keeping the accuracy?
I just came across a post on X saying that fine tuned SQLCoder 7B is 60x cheaper and slightly more accurate than ChatGPT. The price of hosting SQLCoder on AWS was 300$/month assuming a 3 year plan and was running on g5.xlarge. It sounds awesome to me. And that's why I wonder, isn't it a little bit colorized to look that way? Or the open source models are finally outperforming commercial solutions? Feel free to share your thoughts.

@Brandon Phillips Yeah, valid point
New JRE with Sam Altman
What do you think? I know it is not strictly about AI, but some discussions were indeed fascinating. Before listening to the interview I thought that Sam was one of those mad CEOs who don't mind the consequences of their work, ofc in the name of innovation. But now I think he's more down-to-earth and cautious. Also his thoughts about social media, he's got the point. If you want to listen to that episode, here's the link.
