Running an Etsy and/or Shopify store

For individuals new to selling on Shopify and Etsy platforms in the United States, what are a list of things that must be done? There is so much information to read in the dashboard section/s. I know one of the most important things would be to take orders and to fill them per the customers request/s. But until one" learns the ropes "so to speak, can someone share a list of things to do?
