Why Most Things You Do For Falling Asleep Faster Is Useless
On a light night just a month ago (july last month lol)
I was doing my usual routines for going to bed.
Stretching,
journaling,
gratitude journaling,
warm shower,
visualisation,
breathwork,
meditation,
red light therapy,
Everything you could think of,
all of the self improvement habits
The falling asleep faster habits,
I was doing it.
After finally completing this routine,
I crashed into bed, expecting to fall asleep really fast.
Guess what?
It took me three hours to fall asleep that night.
But chances are, it's not what you think it is.
You might think that the temperature would've been too hot.
Or, that it could've been too cold,
or, I simply just didn't fall asleep fast,
no.
It's not any of those reasons.
It was because my mind was racing.
I had so many thoughts going on in my mind,
about my business...
about what was gonna go on the next day.
And these thoughts consumed me,
it was like an eternal hell I was trapped in.
I had been in this EXACT same position a couple nights prior,
where I then promptly went onto my phone,
and searched up all the ways you could fall asleep faster.
None of them work.
Not a single one does.
Because they're not focused on combatting your overthinking.
That's the problem here.
It's not that the temperature's too hot, or that you didn't do that one habit.
It's because your mind is keeping you awake.
Your mind is overthinking,
therefore leading to stress and anxiety,
leading to a pulse of cortisol (which is NOT what you want at night)
Lesson learnt: Focus on doing things before bed which clear your mind and eliminate overthinking
