Sideways take by a pawn.
Looking for some advice. I’ve just played a game where I moved a pawn two squares forward onto d4 leaving it adjacent to my opponents which was on e4. My opponent then moved this pawn diagonally onto the empty square behind my pawn on d3. At this point my pawn disappeared. He claims this unusual (sideways) take is allowed if my pawns first move is over 2 squares. Is this correct?
