🐾You’ll likely go through these steps many times. Progress isn’t always linear, and this roadmap is here to guide you.
MILESTONE 1:
If your child is newly diagnosed with dyslexia or another learning difference, you’re likely on the 1st Milestone—learning about dyslexia and what it means for your child. This is an important first step that builds your confidence as a parent and lays the foundation for future growth.
MILESTONE 2:
Is your child’s self-esteem or behavior being impacted by academic struggles? This can be heartbreaking, but it’s common. If this sounds like your child, focus on this milestone first. Help them see their unique strengths and abilities while introducing a growth mindset.
💡 Tip: You’ll revisit Milestone 2 again and again as your child grows. Building confidence and motivation isn’t a one-time event—it’s a lifelong process.
MILESTONE 3:
Navigating 504 plans, IEPs, or ARD meetings can feel overwhelming. If your child is receiving accommodations, take time to understand how they work and how they can support your child’s learning every day. If you’re unsure how to collaborate with educators, this milestone will guide you through the process.
MILESTONE 4:
Once the earlier milestones are squared away, it’s time to focus on targeted reading practice at home. This step is key to accelerating your child’s literacy growth. It might sound like a lot, but don’t worry—you’ve got support from me, this community, and the Roadmap. Together, we’ll keep things manageable and focused.
The Roadmap Is FLEXIBLE!
While it’s helpful to start with Milestones 1-4 in order, it’s okay to skip around as needed. For example, if you’ve got a 504 or ARD meeting coming up, jump to Milestone 3. Use the Roadmap in the way that works best for you and your family.
