The journey of seeking and understanding secrets began with a simple yet profound instruction from one of my favorite mentors, Major English: “Ask for a secret.” This seemingly straightforward directive became a catalyst for a deeper exploration into what secrets truly are and how they can impact our lives.
Interestingly, the concept of a secret is perceived differently by various people. For example, my wife defines a secret as “being told something by someone and not telling someone else.” In contrast, my own definition is more expansive: “Something that is unknown by most people but, if known, could help them to be better.” Google’s definition adds another layer: “Not known or seen or not meant to be known or seen by others.” Each of these definitions captures a unique aspect of what a secret represents.
Each perspective on what constitutes a secret holds validity, reflecting the diverse ways in which people understand and interact with hidden knowledge. My wife’s definition emphasizes the act of confidentiality and discretion. My own definition highlights the potential for secrets to provide valuable insights that can lead to personal improvement. Google’s definition encompasses the essence of secrecy itself, focusing on the element of being concealed.
These varying definitions underscore a central truth: secrets are not one-dimensional. They are complex and multifaceted, shaped by personal experiences, cultural contexts, and individual purposes. The common thread among these perspectives is that secrets involve information that is not readily accessible to everyone, but the implications of that information can vary widely.
Inspired by these different interpretations, I decided to document the daily secrets that reveal themselves to me. My goal is to share these insights with others, providing a source of guidance and inspiration for personal growth. By capturing and reflecting on these revelations, I hope to offer valuable knowledge that can help others navigate their own journeys.
In my interactions with people, I frequently ask them about their definition of a secret. This simple question often sparks insightful conversations and reveals how individuals perceive and handle hidden information. While many view secrets as things to be kept hidden or guarded, others recognize that secrets can hold significant value and offer potential benefits when discovered.
What stands out from these conversations is the tendency of successful individuals to have a more positive and proactive understanding of secrets. For them, secrets are not merely obstacles to be hidden but opportunities for growth and improvement. This perspective aligns with Proverbs 2:6, which says, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Those who approach secrets with a mindset of seeking valuable knowledge often find that such secrets can lead to greater personal and professional success.
The exploration of secrets has taught me that understanding and utilizing them requires more than just keeping them hidden. It involves recognizing their potential to offer valuable insights and opportunities for growth. As you continue your journey of seeking and uncovering secrets, remember that they are not just concealed pieces of information but keys to deeper understanding and improvement.
By embracing a broader view of what secrets are and how they can be used, you can transform hidden knowledge into powerful tools for personal and collective advancement. Let this understanding guide you as you seek out and apply the secrets that can illuminate your path and enrich your life.

Major English says that a secret is “Something that is known and true to you but for others it is unknown and needs to be revealed. He said that God WILL reveal to you the secret if you ask. However, he may say wait. In my experience, when it is delayed, it has always been because I was not ready yet. Never has it not been revealed…
Some of the better definitions or maybe not better but the ones that I like more are:
· Something that is right there, always has been there but hasn’t quite been revealed in your mind’s eye or in reality.
· There are no secrets. They are almost always something that’s been hiding from you but really, it has been in plain sight.
· Information that’s held in a few brains and/or spaces that holds information that is either valuable or detrimental.
· A truth that is being concealed for someone else’s direct benefit. Typically, the person that is doing the lying or withholding.
· Something that is known and true to you but for others it is unknown and needs to be revealed.
· Something that someone knows that I don’t know. That they purposely keep to themselves.
· An important piece of knowledge that not everyone knows but you have specific insight on.
· Something that hasn’t been discovered yet but is available to be figured out. If you’re willing to research it, and do the digging necessary to find it. Secrets do not need to be a secret forever.
My favorite:
Matt, If you have a half of a brain, you’d know that there is no secret; because all of the answers are all around you. There are no secrets. Show up every day, become an expert and work your ass off. How’s that for a secret?
