Clarification on Trump Mass Deportation Plan
Hi Society, I've gotten lots of questions about President-Elect Donald Trump's plan to complete the "largest deportation effort in American history." It's important to clarify who exactly this plan is targeting. Trump has been very clear that the target for this campaign is undocumented immigrants. He has NOT stated that he will be targeting people who enter the U.S. legally, such as through the student visa process. Trump has actually expressly said the opposite, that the U.S. would still be accepting foreign nationals into the country. For example: "We obviously have to make the border strong and powerful and, and we have to — at the same time, we want people to come into our country, and you know, I’m not somebody that says, 'No, you can’t come in.' We want people to come in." Now, the natural extension of this is, what if an international student loses their status? Would they then be considered undocumented? There has not been a clear answer to this question. For this reason, like his first term, I would highly recommend that you do everything in your power to maintain legal standing. This is not the time to take risks. If you think that your status might be at risk, for whatever reason, please reach out to me right away so we can discuss your situation and options. I'll be keeping a very close eye on this and other developments as Trump transitions back into power, and I'll let you all know as soon as I have any further updates.
