Running an auto shop in a rural area comes with its own set of challenges, and finding qualified technicians tops the list.
While the technician shortage affects repair shops everywhere, it hits especially hard when you're miles from the nearest, highly-populated, metropolitan city.
You've probably been told to just spend more on Indeed ads (usually by an Indeed rep), but the truth is, that's like throwing your money into a black hole.
This tactic is expensive, frustrating and pointless.
Here's why...
Take a look at the two Indeed Hiring Analytics images attached to this post.
One lists the total number of technician resumes available on Indeed in Black Eagle, MT.
The other lists the total number of technician resumes available on Indeed in Denver, CO.
Here's how Indeed defines this information:
"The number of resumes where the selected title/location was listed as the most recent work experience. Indeed does not guarantee that these job seekers are actively seeking employment."
So let me ask you a question...
Do you think spending more money to show your ads to the same 35 technicians who have resumes on Indeed over and over is a smart strategy?
Or...
Does it make more sense to show your ads to folks in a city where there are 1,042 technicians with resumes on file?
Yeah, the second option sounds like a better idea to me too.
Here's what to do:
Step 1 - Create a compelling ad that focuses on the benefits a tech would receive by working for you (there's tons of information and training on how to do this in the Technician Find Community)
Step 3 - Use social media platforms like Facebook to target technicians in major cities and mention that you offer relocation assistance in your ads.
This strategy has worked for dozens of rural shops we've worked with over the past 6 years and it can work for you.
Try it out and let me know how it goes!
