PLANT BASED - NOT ENOUGH PROTEIN
I have an "important question" (maybe it's for Saturday's Q & A training ) There is SO MUCH noise out there about food, losing weight, etc... There are doctors talking about the way to go is "Whole Food - Plant Based", Nutritarian, etc.....
However, I feel that you make so much sense Nagina with EVERYTHING that you're talking about. I personally do want to NOT eat so much meat, though not give it up completely. So, when I look at what "Plant Based people" are supposed to eat, I see a HUGE deficit in their protein intake. However, these people ARE losing weight. how ??
My neighbor went on the plant based Nutritarian plan - she lost 50 lbs - looks great - energetic - she eats a large bowl of mixed fruit & oatmesl for breakfast. ?? blood sugar?? She eats a sweet potato & salad for lunch. ???? She eats beans or lentils & mixed veggies for dinner. ??? I asked her "where's your protein?" She said - veggies & beans have tons of protein, that's all I need. That is the Nutritarian Plan rec by a doctor. Yes, beans & veggies have some protein, but not nearly the 100 grams a day we should be getting, right?
How many bowls of beans & veggies do you have to eat to get your protein in? AND with beans, lentils sweet potatoes, (all good!) but you're also eating more carbs, right? (as I said, my neighbor lost 50 lbs and is off of her diabetes medication and no high blood pressure --- great for her!) But, I don't get it. How?
QUESTION: So, how can we eat sort of "plant based" and still get ENOUGH protein? example: a bowl of fruit & oatmeal for breakfast.....huh? that doesn't seem to be cutting it. AND how many total carbs should we eating per day? I have heard 100 grams / carbs per day max.
Thanks Nagina!
