Rewiring the brain 🧠
A lot of time we think rewiring the brain has to be hard and take a lot of time - I'm here to bust that myth! Rewiring the brain- at the core- requires 1 thing... be in the uncomfortable. You see, our brain's #1 job is to keep us alive... so in brain logic, if we have been living on planet Earth for decades not doing the thing that we are trying to do now, why do we need to do it? You can see the logic of this question, right? This is why change is hard... or often perceived as hard... the brain has the understanding that it's been doing its job well - it's kept you alive- hard evidence to dismiss, if you're reading this, no? So it's question to us is, why do you need to change the programming if everything is working? The brain has this resistance because it doesn't like to be uncomfortable! And... it doesn't know the difference between you surviving and you thriving.... Just like it doesn't know the difference when you speak negatively about your perception of yourself or when you listen to a recording of your ideal life... it accepts both of them as true! When we are trying to incorporate a new habit - add 10 more minutes to our daily walk, drink 2 more glasses of water per day, get to bed at the same time each night, not be on our phones focused on work while at the dinner table, not put ourselves down every time we pass a mirror - and we find ourselves getting stuck, hitting resistance... it's because we are interrupting the program that has been running... UNTIL THIS POINT... In order to change... we need to show the brain that it's safe to be uncomfortable. So keep showing up for yourself in your new way. This will create evidence for the subconscious mind to begin incorporating a new program... and in your physical world, that habit that you have been working on will start to click and be embodied with ease. With regards to change itself- One way that decreases the resistance to change is to create a game with yourself around whatever habit you are incorporating... trying to drink more water, play the game that every time you go to the bathroom, you drink a glass of water when you come out... trying to implement electronics boundaries so that you create more quality time at home, play digital detox bingo. How would you rate your self awareness?
1 - No Self-Awareness At this stage, you have little to no understanding of your emotions, thoughts, or behaviors. You are reactive, often blaming external factors for your challenges without examining your internal responses. There's a disconnect between your actions and the consequences you experience. 2 - Limited Self-Awareness You may occasionally notice your emotions or reactions but struggle to make sense of them. You might realize after the fact that you've acted impulsively or out of alignment with your values. There's some recognition of patterns, but no consistent effort to change them. 3 - Emerging Self-Awareness You reflect on your emotions, thoughts, and behaviors in real time. You begin to recognize the connection between your internal state and external outcomes. There’s a growing understanding of your triggers, strengths, and weaknesses, though you may still struggle with consistent self-regulation. 4 - Developed Self-Awareness You consistently reflect on your actions and emotions. You are attuned to your internal experiences and understand how your thoughts and feelings impact your behavior. You actively work on self-regulation and adjusting your actions based on deeper insight into yourself. 5 - Full Self-Awareness You have a deep understanding of your inner world and how it influences your external environment. You are highly mindful, in control of your emotional responses, and able to consciously align your actions with your values. You are open to feedback and have a strong capacity for self-growth.
