Trying to get into a competitive uni

I'm an 18 yr old AS level student in Karachi, hoping to apply to programs in Applied Math in Ivies, Oxford, HKU etc. (very unrealistic at the moment)

I had 4A*s 5As at O-Levels, and decent ecs such as literary society, dramatics etc. Nothing related to sciences apart from my subjects.

Here's the kicker, I did do my AS with 4 subjects (bio,phy,math,chem) and got terrible grades, and opted for repeat.

There were a multitude of reasons for this such as lack of focus, no drive to do anything as my mom was forcing me to be pre med etc, and i honestly was stupid enough to not put in any effort. i did build a solid ec profile including stem related ecs.

I started AS again with phy,chem,math and maintaining an A average. Applied for a national STEM winter program (STEMx) and got selected for the Topology stream.

Is my application salvageable, what should i be doing in terms of research etc. Probably gonna take a gap year after A-Levels just to strengthen my resume but i honestly jst need some hope
