Research stuff

I just want to know if I'm on track or I'm behind. I think I'm probably more behind since here's the situation..

So over the summer I had a internship at a college but it was like around late July and I just did their work and tried to learn the basics. Now I have an idea and I'm really learning about it and trying to get good at the topic and like start working with AI to make the solution for the project. Do you guys think I'm on a okay track or I need to work more?
