Research Question

So, whilst I'm preparing a question to investigate for the science fair season, I was wondering if questions like: "Why is _______ more effective in _______ compared to other _______?" I was just wondering, in what way can I view that and somehow make out a novel solution, especially since I'm really limited on resources so, I'm investigating this computationally. My other question is do questions with more general and understood background do better or do questions that are more specific do better? I'm asking this because I'm thinking about diving into deep waters with a certain topic but then, I'm always considering if it might not be as useful and have as good outreach as a project that is more general.
