Check out how takes the same approach in practice directly into live at bats. Her approach is “low line drive to left center field/over shortstop” (as a lefty). This is the plan every single rep during our hitting sessions over the past 3 years, which means the left center gap approach is now imbedded in her swing!
During her at bat she fouls off several pitches to her approach side, meaning when she “misses”, she does so to the opposite field. When we miss to the opposite field the hits tend to be line drives or flares in the air which could drop for a hit or in this case went foul and often do.
Having a consistent approach every single pitch helped prolong her at bat, giving her a chance to see more pitches, while the pitcher’s pitch count rises. The more pitches a pitcher throws the more likely they will make a mistake.
In this case Anne got her pitch on the 8th pitch of the at bat and doubles to left center!
Although she may be “missing under” or slightly “late” on the foul balls, she does not feel the need to overcorrect, she knows she’s close!
She sticks with her plan and when she gets her pitch, sends it right where she wanted it to go!
All by design.
Amazing job Anne!
