I spend last weekend in Rome with 2 friends. The 3 of us are trying to improve our IG. None of us a professional photographer (even though one of us has a good camera and is pretty good) but all decent at taking pics.
We made a list of hotels, rooftops and tourist places.
Then we marked all spots on the map, and we started from the first one.
We went inside every single place (mostly 5 start hotels) asking them if it was possible to take a coffee in the lobby bar.
If the place was IG worthy (not all 5 stars are) we would then sit down and order something, then start shooting for at least 30 min.
No one complained (guests, hotel staff) quite the opposite. They were asking who we were, if we were influencer or something, the staff even gave us recommendations on where to take pics and in one case they allowed us to get in a closed room for pics.
I'd say, doing this with a friend is the best, especially with a reflex camera (makes it very obvious what you're doing).
Using a tripod and a clicker may be possible, maybe not everywhere, but I think it would be a double pain in the ass.
- staff and guests may be annoyed
- setting the tripod, taking the pics, didn't come out good enough, shoot another one, makes it annoying
Plus, it was fun to be 3 going around the city and taking pics and exchanging ideas.
in a few days we are going to repeat the same in Milan, working on the list right now (also the list work is split by 3, which makes everything faster and easier).
