Pride, Greed, Lust, Envy, Slothness, Gluttony.
Galatians 5:19-21
"Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God."
Honor your body and give it to God. For He is our intelligent designer and made us in His image. Whatever you do it for the Glory and God.
Glory: To take great pride or pleasure in.
Divine glory: The glory of God is often understood as His intrinsic worth, majesty, and splendor.
It represents God's nature and character, highlighting His greatness and perfection.
Everything we do is for Him and Him alone. For He is good, everlasting, and perfect in all ways.
Physical fitness can be driven by our ego and pride.
The act of self improvement is a prideful pit. That more you take from the hole, the deeper it gets. An act with no destination, ultimately you end up feeling stuck, getting nowhere despite your efforts. Place all yourself in God's hands.
The worst of the 7 deadly sins is pride,
Why is it the worst?
Pride itself is the devil
Pride is a killer, all other of the sins come from pride. To humble yourself before the Lord and give your body over to Christ is how you flee pride. In the fitness industry we can make ourselves an idol for people's respect, and adoration ultimately forgetting who gave us our body and who gives us our strength. In Matthew 6:33
"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."
it tells us to seek his kingdom and righteousness first. Prayer before and after exercise reminds us our place, and why we work out. Not for ourselves but for him. So we can be a better student, so we can serve our community so we can be a better man in our family. Not for the adoration of others but so God's blessing can be with us.
Pride keeps us in our sinful line thinking. That our self worth is derived from how other people see us and how we feel about our bodies. We often look at our bodies in the mirror with the wrong intention. We post on instagram to be seen by other people. When we don't honor our body, God's gift to us and we use his gift for our own satisfaction we don't align his will with ours so he frowns upon us and is
disappointed.
Romans 1:21-24
"For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves."
Envy
Proverbs 14:30
"A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones."
We envy the Men who look better than us. That from the outside perspective we view them as better than ourselves. Not knowing what they have going on in their life. Being envious of others can lead you down a path a disdain for other people, thinking you are better than them. This isn't true. We all hold the same value human to human alike since we are all created in his image.
Genesis 1:26-27
"Then God said, 'Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness...' So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
Anger
Walking down the ally of anger takes away our humanity we let go of everything that makes us human turning us into a machine of violence of hate and destruction. Wrath is a venom that kills us slowly causing us to sin in haste and does not produce righteousness.
James 1:19-20
"My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires." ,
We turn away the ones closest to us out of spite. Wrath in physical fitness can be a place of strength, but in it we can loose sight on what is important and nothing is stronger than God. Nothing brings more peace, power, prosperity than the Lord.
Sloth
Extreme laziness is a dishonorment to our mind, body, and spirit. God calls us to work. Proverbs 13:4 explains sloth very clearly,
"The soul of the sluggard craves and gets nothing, while the soul of the diligent is richly supplied."
while you sit and do nothing you begin to crave everything while the wealthy are not bothered and will work anyway no matter how they feel and will reap what they sow. A lot of the time we know that remaining consistent in the gym is how we progress but while we know this, sin begins to develop with a thought and then creeps in our mind like a robber in the night. Taking away with it our motivation to keep going. Giving your body over to the lord and honoring it as your duty, and responsibility. Is what you are called to do to be a muscular christian. To be fit for his sake so you can better take care of your family, and fulfill your duty.
Gluttony
Philippians 3:19
"Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their shame. Their mind is
set on earthly things."
The glutton eats with no concern of his well being or the well being of the people around him. His diss-concern drives people away from him. Your body is a temple and treating your temple with no respect
is how other people will treat you.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
"Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies."
Rebuke and repent to our God, apologise to Him for treating yourself with so much disrespect and begin taking control of what you put into your temple. Honor it and give it the respect you deserve.
Lust
Finally lust, all men have fought with lust but most men do not flee from lust and walk in the spirit, if you walk in the spirit you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
Galatians 5:16-17
"So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh."
We are the furthest away from God and closet to the devil when we are not walking in the spirit, So walk in the spirit to leave lust behind.
Desire comes from the body as a thought we think we have the will to fight the thought but we always give into temptation
In this moment we separate ourselves from God not putting him first in the moment.
To not give into lust we must flee from it in go to the holy spirit by prayer worship and the bible.
As our bodies grow and our muscles develop the way women view us will change. We will go from invisible to visible, ignored to listened to, powerless to powerful.
Lust may seep in and find a way to infect our minds with its smooth intoxicating ways. The world is full of temptations for the flesh so do not love the world,
1 John 2:15-17 (NIV)
"Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world."
Love God, and allow your mind be in constant renewal by him from studying his ways,
Romans 12:2 (NIV)
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."
In 2024 we are exposed to the words sinful nature at a very young age. Without the know how to flee it, lust keeps us in captivity so we are not able to fulfill God's purpose for our life.
Your body is of this world because it is flesh. Placing the love of your body above God is gratifying the flesh and lustly desires. Your body is a loan by God given to you to honor God so you can be his soldier, you are a sheep and he is the good shepherd all things are created by him and all things will go back to him. Placing God first in all things is so important as a muscular christian especially your body so it does not become corrupted by the devil but is a vessel for the Holy Spirit, In Jesus name Amen.
Conclusion
A saying goes around "i'm here for a good time not a long time" but this is a false dichotomy. We are here for a good time a long time and a meaningful time. The reason why people say this is to forgo any responsibility for their current actions because people are lost on a mass scale there are confused. As muscular christians we must set an example and rebuke all 7 deadly sins and we must have great compassion for those who are lost because the devil has gotten ahold of them.
