I feel like this is especially true for amateurs and high handicappers. As much as we may want to think we know what we’re doing wrong… we probably don’t.
Trying to make adjustments on the fly will likely only make things worse. Before long we are so confused that we literally have no idea how to hit the ball anymore.
Falling back on the practice you’ve put in, doing your best with what you have is probably a much better strategy.
