How to Tell the Story of a Stock + I Bought a Course
In the WIKI (link below) there is a section called "How to Tell the Story of a Stock", which is an important thing you will need to do before entering any trade.
Here is an excerpt from the post:
"And that is the story of MSFT. When you look at a chart you need to be able to see the story it is telling you and then judge the price action accordingly. Once you know the story the issue of what is noise and what is real, the question of when to get out and when to stay in, all become much more clear - as it either fits with the story or it doesn't.
If you don't know the story then you are looking at numbers without context, and that is always a dangerous way to reach the wrong conclusions."
Over the past 6 months or so I have been watching some technical analysts give their commentary on stocks and the market, and I found that Matt, AKA The Great Mattsby to give some great analysis IMO. Now, there are so many people doing this online, and I’m sure there are other great commentators, but I do really feel that Matt knows his stuff. I have been watching his YouTube videos and commentary on X, and he’s been spot on many times.
IMO, and remember I’m just a beginner, he knows how to tell the story of a stock and the markets in general. This post from the WIKI about how to tell the story of a stock instantly made me think of Matt.
I've been watching a lot of Matt’s analysis, and I recently decided to purchase his course and learn more about technical analysis and his strategy. I don’t know Matt personally and have no affiliation with him, but I’ll link his social media accounts below if you want to learn more.
I asked Matt what his edge was and this is what he told me. I’m paraphrasing here:
"Recognizing market symmetry on every chart is my edge. When you can do this, you can just let the charts do what they are supposed to do, and trade without emotion. The more you do this the more you will see every chart follows it."
Matt is more of a position trader. So he doesn’t day trade. Very simply he buys at support and sells at resistance. He can recognize market symmetry on any chart. He gets excited when stocks are at their support levels and is cautious when things are approaching resistance levels.
Personally, I found this approach very appealing. It’s not “day trading”. There’s less stress about short term movements which some people might like. It certainly has its pros and cons like any strategy.
I’m currently interested in this strategy and learning more about his approach to technical analysis because I want to be able to recognize market symmetry on every chart. I think being able to do this can help with any trading strategy you might be using. So although it’s probably not ideal in certain cases to study 2 strategies at the same time (maybe it is?), I do feel this approach to reading the charts and spotting market symmetry is a strategy on its own, but can also complement any strategy.
So this is why I bought the course and why I’m learning this along with the WIKI.
You can learn more about the specifics of the course through Matt’s social media links which I will link below. The course was around $250 US I believe.
But basically it’s hosted on Telegram where Matt shares his actual trades which is great for transparency. There’s a chat feature where you can ask Matt questions, and there is the course itself is video format hosted on Telegram. I've asked Matt several questions and he answers them right away.
The course has tutorials on all the indicators Matt uses, and lessons on entry and exit strategies. I plan to do a full video review once I have gone through all the videos and will post it in this group.
Now, I am very happy with the course and feel it offers great value, but I don’t have anything in the space to compare it to. I would recommend that you watch Matt's analysis on YouTube and X for a couple months maybe and see if you find it useful. From there you will get a feel for whether you like his strategy.
Again, it’s not a day trading strategy, but if you want to really improve your technical analysis skills then I think it’s worth considering... if you find his YouTube and X account useful. At this stage I don't have enough experience to recommend the course.
Personally I can totally see myself trading the way he does, even though it’s not “day trading”.
I have no affiliation with Matt, however in the future perhaps I can ask him to be a guest on the podcast which would be pretty cool.
P.S: Matt also has a Patreon which I’m not a member of. His course is for people like me who actually want to learn his approach to technical analysis and trading. His Patreon is just for people who want to know which stocks to buy…
Many people just want to be told what to buy instead of learning the fundamentals. It might be tempting, but I would not start buying stocks based on other people’s analysis. I think this is a really bad thing to do for your trading career. Analyze and learn from various “stock picks”, but I wouldn’t actually trade this way.
