I have been editing for the past 4 years, and every short video I've edited has garnered an average of 500K views. Stopping the scroll and making the viewer watch the video is crucial.
Here are 3 simple ways to stop a scroll in a post or editing:
1) The First Frame
The first frame is the most important part of a short video. To stop a scroll, we need to show something
- familiar
- visual
- bright
- easy to understand
- easy to read
Example - Henry Belcaster (you can see in the below attached image)
2. Blue Ocean
Use a completely new or different style that viewers have never seen or rarely see. Instead of a normal, boring video with an A-roll and captions, using a different editing style will automatically make viewers stop scrolling.
Example - Dan Koe (you can see in the below-attached image)
3. The First Cut
It is the most simple trick. I see lots of videos where there are a few frames of silence at the beginning of the video (it might seem very little, but when a viewer is mindlessly scrolling, they will decide to watch a video or scroll in less than a second). Not starting the audio as soon as the video begins can cost us a scroll, which will directly affect the performance of the video.
I hope this was helpful
