You can beat a defender without dribbling (read again).... When you know how to use your pivot & can read a defender's feet you can create space & beat them with zero dribbles. That is the power of using your pivot, jabs & fakes in the triple threat.
Here are a few things to look for:
- How is the defender's feet set? Do they want to force you baseline, to the middle or playing your straight up.
- Where is the help side defense set up?
- The goal is to make your defender change their feet & position. If you do that you take have the advantage & the defender is playing 'catch up' with you.
- You want to win the "half - battle." The 1on1 matchup is won in a 'half step' or 'half second' advantage. If you get a half step on your defender you have to get by them or make the right read.
