Roll call of groups not focused on teaching how to make $

I would love to hear from successful community leaders with groups that are for bringing people together around a special interest, and not intended to help students make money or scale their business. Vegan food, water color painting? How is your strategy to attract paying members different than enticing members with the promise of financial gains?
