‘I am changeable’. 'I am capable'. Do you believe this or do you constantly find yourself saying ‘it is what it is, I am who I am’?
You know that saying ‘you can’t teach an old dog new tricks’ – I proved that to be false. My 10 year old dog learned a new trick in 20 minutes a few weeks back. Honestly, the saying should be, you can teach an old dog epic tricks faster.. I’m sorry if it offends you that I’m relating us to dogs haha my point is that it doesn’t matter how old you are, you can change and learn and adapt to anything you set your mind to. (my dogs mind is set on treats)
I’m relating this to me specifically because I’ve changed and learned so much over the last 2 years and even more so in the last year and I’m in my 30’s. Why? Because I wanted to be better on many different levels. How? I'm an adult and can make my own decisions on what I want to make a priority(for me, it was taking a step back, learning patience in my reaction time to certain situations and gaining a tremendous amount of empathy for everyone I come in contact with).
As a kid, you have a lot less brain power to overturn pissed off/bad moods because you’re not in full control of what you get to do and how you spend all of your time. The older you get, the more power you should have over your life, your feelings/emotions and the choices you make. As an adult, YOU are the one who gets to dictate which ‘treats’ are worth learning new things for and changing for. All you need is a little ‘why’ behind it. Once you know the treat, create the ‘why’ and the ‘how’ will follow through trial and error.
Here’s a very common example:
‘I want to workout and get healthy, but I don’t have the time.’ (FYI: ‘I don’t have the time’ is the ‘I am who I am and it is what it is’ saying I referred to at the beginning)
--What’s the treat? - Examples: More energy, more self confidence, more motivation, not feeling like garbage.. Etc..
--Some common ‘why’s’: feeling better, losing weight, keeping up with my kids, be stronger, less aches etc..
--The ‘how’ options around ‘not having time’: wake up 10-20 minutes earlier, stay up 10-20 minutes later, do some push ups/sit ups/air squats while you watch your tv at night. The how’s are endless. It’s just how much emphasis you put onto the ‘why’
So, find what ‘treat’ is worth learning and changing for and do it for YOU.
Long story short, It’s all about maximizing where and how our time and energy is being spent because you have all the capability in the world to change something in your life that you don’t like, it’s all about how you prioritize your thought processes and actions to do so.
Please share what 'treats' you have prioritized, what was the 'why' and how did you do it?!
Ps. I'm sharing this video 1. because this is a cool trick and 2. who doesn't love a cute dog video?! 🥰
