Allergy medicine called Montelukast

I’ve recently been prescribed allergy medicine because of my terrible allergies. It’s called Montelukast and I’m just wondering if there is anything I should worry about if taking it. I noticed when I stopped taking it I would be out of breath sometimes and feel dizzy and a tight feeling in my throat as well. Also wondering if there are other ways to help my allergies besides just taking medication a doctor gave me.
