Programming for white hat hackers

I wonder if anyone with experience or expertise, has like a good roadmap or tips to develop expolits, malware or other programs by coding. I am currently very familiar with python - but does anyone know if I could use python for ethical hacking purposes - in that case, what should I learn or were should I start?
