A “how-to” article is an article which provides a step-by-step way of doing something that the reader wants to learn how to do
Examples of “How-To” Blog Post Titles:
- How to Buy a Used Computer (and Save Money)
- How to Start an Ecommerce Business
Structure of the Post Title:
Usually addresses the full targeted keyword term. Optionally, you can add a “modifier” to the end, such as “without going crazy” or “and save money” or “and impress your friends”.
Adding the modifiers is supposed to increase curiosity, so be creative :)
Usual Format and Contents:
- Introduction
- Sub-headings with the Step Number and Step Name
- 3-7 paragraphs describing each step
- Images to support the instructions in each step
- Conclusion and links to further resources for the user to explore
Why This Format Works:
- People love step by step guides on how to do various things
- Usually this is excellent long-form content that ranks really well in Google
How to Make How-To Articles SEO-Optimized:
- Include the main keyword into the Post Title. For example, if your keyword is “how to buy a used computer” then make your Post Title “How to Buy a Used Computer (and Save Money)” or “How to Buy a Used Computer (and Not Go Insane)”
- Link to relevant high-quality resources from each article
- Repeat the main keyword several times in the body of the article
SEO Implementation Example:
- For example, if you’re writing about “How to Buy a Used Computer (and Not Go Insane)”, then make sure to mention your keyword “How to Buy a Used Computer” at least once in the first paragraph of the article
- Then, mention several variations of this keyword throughout the article such as “buying a used computer” …. “I bought a used pc” … “buying a used laptop”... etc. - to vary up your keyword
