I’m guilty of using this incorrectly. We tend to select the one which sounds right or the coolest. The purpose of this thread is to use the correct words. :)
Agent
- An agent is an autonomous entity that can perceive its environment, make decisions, and take actions to achieve specific goals
- Agents are often used in artificial intelligence and robotics to create systems that can operate independently
- Examples of agents include software programs that can make decisions on behalf of a user, or robots that can navigate and interact with their surroundings
Assistant
- An assistant is a tool or system designed to help a user accomplish tasks or find information
- Assistants are typically not autonomous and rely on user input and direction to function
- Assistants can be software-based, like virtual assistants or chatbots, or physical devices, like robots designed for specific tasks
- The goal of an assistant is to augment and support the user, not to act independently
