For those of you who don’t know me…
This was me 4 years ago.
Union Laborer, in decent shape, making pretty good money, at a good company, around good dudes.
I honestly didn’t hate my job. Pension, great healthcare benefits, generally didn’t have to commute TOO far…
But deep down I knew that I was meant to do more.
I knew that if I didn’t somehow use my hard-earned experiences and life lessons to positively impact other people’s lives, I was on pace to die with the regret of never trying.
And that was just something I wasn’t willing to live with.
So one day, after thinking about it for months, I finally mustered up the courage to put in my two weeks notice.
I had a little money saved, and a general idea of what I wanted to do, since I had just completed my Master’s degree for Life Coaching and Counseling while working at my job.
But I had NO IDEA how to run a business or get clients, or make content, or build a website…the list goes on.
I hadn’t used a real computer in YEARS. I had gotten my Master’s using a Google Chromebook, Word Doc and about 2 school websites. I used to do my research papers on a coffee table and my couch because my tiny studio apartment didn’t have room for a desk.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t fall for the sunshine and rainbows of entrepreneurship.
Boy, was I mistaken!
It’s been the most difficult thing I’ve ever done, probably outside of getting clean and sober, and everyday new problems arise and there’s no one to turn to to solve them.
It’s all on you! But what’s better than that?!
Having no one else to blame for your problems, no excuses, no victimhood mentality. Either make it happen, fix it, or don’t and just quit.
And trust me that thought is constantly floating in your head, especially when you first start and you’re working nonstop but you’re not making any money.
So why am I sharing this?
Two reasons.
1. I want people to know that being an entrepreneur/business owner is the furthest thing from easy. If your goal is to get rich quick, don’t even bother. If your goal is to look for a way around hard work and long hours with no guarantee of success, this shit ain’t for you.
2. I also want to tell you that it’s also OKAY if you don’t want this life. Don’t let people on social media corrupt you. If you have a good job at a good company with a good family and you’re in good health, then your life is GOOD. And the grass aint always greener on the other side.
That said, if you’re not happy with the life you’re living, it’s probably because you’re not really living at all, you’re simply existing.
