WHAT IS CHESS?

What is chess? Chess, formerly known as Chaturanga in the 1400s, (whatever tf it is) is a 2 player game, where each side (White and Black; some games are White and Brown) has 16 pieces, making the whole piece count 32 pieces. The board is 8x8 (64 squares) and one side is "abcdefgh", the other is "12345678". White always gets the turn first; then black/brown plays next. They play an opening, the most popular one being the queen's/king's pawn opening. Some plays gambits, like the queen's gambit. PARTS OF CHESS: The beginning is when the openings are played and pieces are developed. Mostly, a player castles their king to safety. Middlegames are when things get chaotic; one side is in a winning position, the other is losing. Endgames are the endings of a chess game (SUPER OBVIOUS) and it starts to get a little intense for both sides. One might have just their king, the other has a lot of pieces. It wouldn't always end up like this though, it's pretty unpredictable like middlegames. Types of endings: Stalemate - Draw. It is when one side can not move their pieces anymore, and since each side has to take turns, the opponent can't move their pieces since the player can not move the pieces. Checkmate - The king can't block the checkmate and loses. The king can not move. Timeout + Insufficient material - It is when the opponent who has lots of material gets a timeout, while the other barely has any material. Timeout - The opponent ran out of time and loses. Movement: Rook - up, down, left, right Queen - up, down, left, right, northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest Bishop - northeast, southeast, northwest, southwest Pawn - up Knight - L shapes. King - like the queen, but only one square. Points for each piece; Rook - 5 Queen - 9 Bishop and Knight - 3 Pawn - 1 King - 10 (?)
