Hey everyone... I have been absent for a long time (idk how long yet because I haven't looked) but I wanted to take a minute to talk about why, and what's happened since the last time I posted here. 2022 - Signed a distribution deal w/ Bentley Records, LLC (legit) 2023 - I went to ROLLING LOUD LA and met DJ Cipha Sounds, Big Boy from Real92.3LA, and Mike Nitro (A&R at Interscope Records)... - also met cool people and made attempts to network and share social media... Making content the entire time... and I did everything I went to do on DAY 1... The last two days were spent casually looking for other opportunities in the downtown area (Sunset Blvd, Walk of Fame, etc).... - Unfortunately even though I met a lot of supporters and potential business partners when I returned home there was nothing to - I ended up connecting with a scammer unintentionally (always ask how they found you and ask them for details about you that stand out to them... if they say something weird or off base they're a scammer)... Even though I did give him money (a lot of it) I knew what was happening and wanted to find a way to strike back, which is what i did when he foolishly connected his phone to my Gmail account after pretending that "the label" was taking over control of my social media (they do that for signed acts some times ... EDIT: After some time scrolling IG I think this may be a load of BS because it looks like an attempt to make themselves seem "larger the life") - What did I learn? Find out the lawyers name IMMEDIATELY because no one is signing a deal without one ... NOBODY; I already understood that NO ONE is giving you $1 million if they've never met you in person; labels may send a copy of the contract first (I got him to send me a copy but I don't know if he did that to make me believe it was real); some labels may have you meet and talk with your "manager/a&r" who will handle the direction you are taking your career by helping find opportunities for you before signing; MOST IMPORTANTLY you should also read "All You Need To Know About The Music Industry" by DONALD PASSMAN because that book will HELP YOU more than it hurts to spend time READING IT; ***also do not spend money on ANYTHING AT ALL ... If they want to sign you they're doing it because they want to make money off you so make them work for it*** (edit: I realized this suggestion of NOT spending money is dumb... I was low key on my soap box and legit made an error in judgment... My bad... I was ignoring the fact that being signed to ANY label will require you to REINVEST in your own career for the purposes of marketing/promo among other things... This isn't a way to get out of working... It's actually an even harder than having a regular job because there's nothing guaranteed AND it's possible to lose everything)
