What do you do when you travel?
You're in a place for 1 month, 2 months or maybe 6 months... What do you do? How do you spend your time?

If I'm spending only 1 month in a country, it would involve mainly experiencing the culture/people/nature. If its a few months, I set up shop in a short term rental, find community work space and try to establish a few connections while there and build some routine. I also plan mini getaways to see the country I'm visiting to maximize the experience!
👋Intro Post - Hi im Monica, on and off again nomad!
❤️Love to connect with others pursing the nomad lifestyle while building a business. After visiting 40+ countries I absolutely refuse to go back to the mundane cooperate lifestyle I once had. Perseverance and consistency is the game I'm playing! ✈️🌎

What You Wish You'd Known...
I'm really interested in hearing about your experiences living abroad, particularly the challenges you've faced or observed. Your insights could be incredibly valuable for others in our community. If you've spent time living in another country, I'd love to hear your thoughts on: - What are some common mistakes you've seen expats make? - Can you share any specific examples of expat blunders you've witnessed or experienced firsthand - Why do you think some expats keep repeating these mistakes? - Have you witnessed any "success stories" of expats who initially struggled but managed to turn things around? - What advice would you give to someone who's about to become an expat? Don't hold back - the good, the bad, and the ugly are all welcome.

First off - mistakes I have seen other expats make is relying on local employment, especially if its a developing country - not a good idea if you are relocating from a Western country and expecting a certain lifestyle. A friend moved to DR and started a bacon company not understanding that they can only charge local prices - whoop's lol Secondly - make sure that you move to a place that allows for personal connection with others. Geo-arbitrage is real and fantastic, but sustainably only works if you actively build relationships with others in the area. My suggestion is to find co-working spaces or join groups which connect you with others because having community will either make or break your expat adventures. I have lived in Canada, Australia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Saudi Arabia plus travelled extensively through 40+ countries, and have had very good experiences because I was employed by a North American company and ensured there were people onsite that I could immediately access for integration in the new country.
