Outdoor Workouts
Something I started about 5 years ago, was making an outdoor workout mandatary on a daily basis (no matter what the weather is). Actually wish I would have started this sooner. Even here in the Midwest when the winter comes, I will layer up and get outside. The exercises varies depending on conditions The physical benefits are one thing, but the mental and health components are another. Having clarity to visualize and think outside is different than being inside (at least for me). Not to mention I have not been sick with the seasonal issues others get since I started this. I don’t think this is a “coincidence” either. When the aquarium seems to shrink and retreat, I hear people say something along the lines of “gym is packed today because of the snow storm”, I smile. I know that most will seek comfort over being uncomfortable. Do any of you have any outside “rituals” you do? Always looking to grow and get some new ideas. 💡

Yeah buddy! I'm there with you brother. Rain, sleet, sun, or snow, I gotta go!
On Fire
Had my onboarding call with MC yesterday, left the call a bit overwhelmed but knowing this is the call to step it up and leave the comfort of my current systems that I have outgrown. Woke up on fire with the opportunity in front of me. Watched hours of content in the classroom which has inspired me on ways I can communicate similar ideas that I teach in my own practice

Welcome aboard Eric
A Question and an Update
I'm curious of the different ways members here leverage their environment to work FOR them and not against them. Whiteboards on the walls? Barbell in the living room? Soundproofing a room? Hopefully this will conjure up ideas for other community members and inspire us to reflect on ways our environment could be better tailored to help us work/focus on the things that matter. Also a general update to how my week has gone so far: -Adjusted my wake up time from 10am to now between 7 and 8am (morning walks are great) -Significant improvement in managing/planning work -Significant improvement in getting more actual quality work done -Greatly minimized online distractions. (there's still a few moments where I catch myself but compared to what it has been it is really a BIG improvement) -Created a workout plan to build strength (walking is helpful but I'm lacking in strength) Attached are the walks I went on and workout program I made for myself. Nothing insane, but consistency and gradual growth are what I'm trying to focus on. The workout program might seem pretty wack haha but It's simple and has movements I know I'll stick to. I eventually would like to do Jim Wendler's 531 program, we'll see. Cleaning up my diet and creating a social plan to better connect with people I'm aligned with (and working on complaining a lot less) are the next big deficiencies I'm planning to shift my focus towards. Keeping in mind the Kaizen principle and not expecting results so soon I believe will aid me a lot throughout this journey. I'm building my foundation. 🏡 Happy Sunday, tribe!

I added a ruck that I alternate in for my daily walk to add more power. If you don't have a ruck, you can use a db to a regular knap sack.
Introducing myself.
Hey guys, my name is Ben, I was a paid Firefighter for the better part of ten years with 3 years of Volunteer Firefighting prior to paid FF. I'm a single father of an amazing 13 year old boy. I've been doing BJJ close to 3.5 years and it without a doubt it helped save my life after a hand full of traumatic incidents as a FF (Firefighter). I used to train at Atos is Reno and before hat several other places, I am beyond happy to say that I have found a new home at Cultivate Power Fighting Arts in Oroville CA. Coach Daryl and Coach Jenifer the owner/operators/husband&wife of the gym have put together a place I happily call HOME now! Daryl turned me onto this community and I'm very excited to explore and learn from like minded people! I look forward to getting to know y'all. Have a great day and stay safe🙏🏻🇺🇸‼️ Ben Holliday.

Welcome Ben
focus the will
Wintertime in Minnesota is a bit different than other places. The cold and snow lend themselves to various outdoor activities, but for the most part people tend to stay inside when the weather creates a challenge to your very life. I have picked up doing various things to pass the time. When I do a daily email, manage the people at work, try to write a book, manage two websites and a Youtube channel, trying to put unique content in all of them, it can somedays be a unique challenge. I make things to unlock the power of my mind. To harness the energies of my imagination. Occasionally though, I may have a table of unique items in front of me, I will draw a blank. In this situation I can neither create anything or write anything or make any video. I am, for all intents and purposes, locked up like a fainting goat. Yet every single day I manage to make it happen. I have learned to focus. To take such amount of time as I need to try and think about only one thing. It is difficult. When I first learned to meditate I would repeat a single rune, thinking of nothing but that rune for a minute, then two, then three. Not as easy as you think. But I also granted myself the authority to pay attention to what was happening in my life. The benefits of such a meditation. Every culture, every religion or spirituality has a manner that encourages us to think of only one thing. That is our faith. And we learn how to do it. But what about life? We sit in front of the blank canvas of our life and listen to everyone else instead of our own heart and mind. You should do this or that. Even from people who do not know how to do anything. The poison of another’s ego practicing misery loves company. Or we just say screw it and work a regular job until we retire. Or, we engage in time passing distractions. I have plenty of those too. How is that working for you? Being honest about our ability to be distracted because we don’t know how to use all the implements laid on the table in front of us to build a life is the first step.

Winter is well on it's way here in North potato land as well. Yesterday's first snow fall backed by rain was the tell of what's coming. I have to be flexible with my schedule in that if there's a heavy snow overnight the driveway has to be plowed before anything else, that is typically a 2hr minimum commitment. The show must go on regardless, water pipes break or sewers back up or houses gotta get built. But sometimes... The stillness of a heavy snow, the warmth of the wood stove, a cup of hot tea & the quiet of a good book or the companionship of my gentle wife, gives meaning to sanctuary. Those are the moments that I cherish close in my heart. Those moments make the battle worth it. See you at the top!
