Thank You Summer 24 Metabolic Class
Great discussion again on our last night. Please feel free to continue the dialogue here (and remember to add recipes under the low carb message board)! Also, please take a moment and respond in this thread to: 1. What did you like about this class? 2. What would you have done differently? 3. Would you be interested in a follow up event, maybe to share a potluck (or other ideas)?

1. Everything! The info was excellent, thorough, and well-rounded (I'm sure there is better word...). I loved the casual nature that allowed for questions and sharing among participants. The small class was also helpful. 2. This might be cost-prohibitive or not what the majority would want, but I think it would be beneficial for the class to take longer. As in, go over Module 1, take two weeks to try to implement the info, then meet again with questions or seeking advice. Then go over Module (or Pillar) 2, take two weeks. Or even go over Pillar 1, work on implementation, meet again for questions, keep working for another week, then Pillar 2, and so on. Since this information was somewhat familiar to me, this wasn't necessary for me, but I think if someone comes to this class and has no prior knowledge, it would be a lot to take in and try to wrap your head around. A total lifestyle change is difficult, and again, if starting at zero, it might be helpful to take it slowly (but I also realize that might make it more likely for people to drop out or lose interest). 3. Sure!
Books
If you like to read, here are some books that seem to align with the VitalLife ideas on nutrition and lifestyle. Some vary a little (of course), but are generally encouraging and explain or expound on the same general ideas: Metabolical by Robert Lustig The Case Against Sugar by Gary Taubes Change Your Genes, Change Your Life by Kenneth Pelletier Books by Dr Gundry (he’s kinda weird… always selling something but his books are alright) How Not to Die by Michael Greger (he advocates for vegetarianism, but his arguments are flawed because he doesn’t talk about grass fed beef or pastured chickens. He does make a good arguments for the importance of vegetables and the ability to heal the body through food. He’s a doctor who was horrified by his lack of nutrition training in med school). Eating on the Wild Side by Jo Robinson (lots of info on the best way to cook vegetables for the most health benefits as well as lots of discussion of different varieties of veggies found mostly in farmers markets that reap even better health benefits than the ones found in stores) I am open to Derek nixing any of these suggestions!

Easy veggies & chicken
When I need a quick healthy meal, I often just bake chicken that I’ve put salt and pepper on (maybe add cheese later). I put the oven on 425 or 450 and bake the chicken for 30 minutes. I also put veggies in (usually slightly less time) that I also just add salt and pepper to, and they’re delicious. Some ideas: Zucchini and onions Mushrooms and zucchini and onions Carrots and zucchini (carrots are a little carby) Brussels Brocolli This has become my favorite way to eat veggies.

Does anyone have any thoughts on multivitamins? I have just started taking AG1 as a vitamin/gut help. It's ingredients seem clean. I do wonder--does taking this end my fast? I try to restrict my eating until lunchtime, so I am unsure if I should take AG1 in the morn, or wait until right before I end my fast. I am also interested in everyone's thoughts on coffee during IF. I have tried drinking black coffee until I end my fast and also drinking coffee with heavy cream (my preferred way). It seems I had better results with black coffee, but it is difficult for me to drink it without any cream.
