The Top 10 Social Media Mistakes You're Probably Making Right Now
Over the past 12 months, I've worked with a good number small businesses and chatted with fellow entrepreneurs and business owners at networking events (mostly BLN!!). And let me tell you... We're all making the same mistakes on social media. π
Here are the top 10 I've seen time and time again: 1. Using your profile as a megaphone for self-promotion Your profile isn't a billboard. It's a conversation starter. Stop shouting about your products and start sharing value 2. Not having a clearly defined audience "Everyone" is not your audience. Who are you really trying to reach? Get specific. It'll change everything. 3. Lack of clear content pillars Throwing spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks? That's a recipe for disaster. Define 3-5 core topics and stick to them. 4. Getting the wrong followers early 1,000 engaged followers > 10,000 ghosts. Quality over quantity, always. 5. Mixing personal interests into your business profile Unless it aligns with your brand, keep the cat videos on your personal account. Your business profile needs focus. 6. Posting for the sake of posting Consistency is key, but not at the expense of quality. Better to post less frequently with high value than daily fluff. 7. Little to no outbound engagement Social media is a two-way street. You can't expect engagement if you're not giving it. Comment, share, and connect! 8. Lazy profile setup First impressions matter. A half-baked profile screams "I don't care." Take the time to make it shine. 9. Lack of a clear Call-to-Action (CTA) What do you want people to do after reading your post? Tell them! Don't leave them guessing. 10. Not being clear with your social platforms about what your profile is about and who you want to engage with Ambiguity is the enemy of engagement. Be crystal clear about your niche and target audience. It helps both the algorithm and your potential connections understand your value. Here's the thing... I've made every single one of these mistakes. π And I've watched brilliant entrepreneurs with game-changing ideas struggle because of them.
