@Amanda Penning You can't fully complete a scope of work without knowing the scope- so yes, you would need to talk to the builder before you create the proposal so you know who will be responsible for what. Site visits is something you have to figure out for yourself- do you want to do a million site visits? Do you trust the builder and his team to do their job- I would assume yes. They don't NEED a designer, they're already gunna do their job with or without you. This is something you can discuss with the builder- they usually have a streamlined process and checkpoints throughout the different building stages, so if you're looped in on that, you would figure out when you'd be coming to check on things. For example, they have a deadline for drywall, electrical, fixtures, etc., so knowing when those deadlines may be will help you develop a plan for when you could come check on when things are being installed. I also think this is just a flexible process that isn't rigid and 100% planned out- you can't possibly foresee and plan out when everything will happen and things are constantly changing.

@Alison Johnson while I understand how scary it feels to invest money when you aren’t making any yet- you have to remember that this is a business and you have to put your entrepreneur hat on.

Remodels / New Build Projects
Do you find yourself wondering how remodels/new build projects differ from full-service furniture projects? Maybe you have no clue how to price them out? Who's responsible for what? What is the process like? Do you have to project manage? I want to hear all your questions that you struggle with. I will be creating a new course all about remodels/new builds so you will feel more confident in accepting projects like these! Drop your questions and I'll create the course. 🥳

Meeting with a contractor next week
I have a meeting next Thursday with a luxury remodel contractor. Is there certain questions I should ask him to make the most of this meeting? I already know we align as I've been following them and their podcast for a couple months now. I know it's someone I want to partner with. But they work with high end designers who've been in the business for years. I feel like a small fish in a big pond. How can I stand out and impress them so that we can collaborate better. I haven't done any jobs yet.

Congrats- very exciting! Questions you can ask: -What has been your experience working with interior designers? -Expected order of operations between contractor and designer on a remodel. Who does what first, what is needed from the contractor before a designer can begin work, visa versa. -How do you handle project management with interior designers? For example when it comes to project managing project timelines and budgets, I assume both parties need to work together to create a full project price and timeline estimate before work can even begin? -What is your preferred method of communication throughout the project? -How often can I expect project updates and reports? -What would you expect from me in this partnership? Tell them what all you're capable of doing (services) and how you can meet their needs. That you can just be referred to each client and you'll do your usual process. Bring your Our Process booklet! Really it's a similar "pitch" that you do with a potential client, but you can be more transparent since they're in a similar industry and you're trying to help each other out.

@Amanda Penning This kinda answers your question about new-builds. Some of these questions can be applied during the consultation process with the builder
